G.D. Vajra

The G.D. Vajra winery located in Barolo, in the heart of the Langhe, was inspired by the unconventional vision of Aldo Vaira, a pioneer of organic farming. The winery’s Nebbiolo is grown in the most prestigious crus of Barolo, Novello and Serralunga but biodiversity is the authentic source of its surprising character. A combination of discipline and freedom that interprets the territory with precision, producing refined, intriguing and deeply authentic wines.

Turin, 1968. Fifteen-year-old Aldo Vaira’s desire to return to Barolo and cultivate his grandparents’ vineyards seemed to be little more than a boyhood dream, but his depth of vision, his desire to make the most of the land and to create wines that could become ambassadors of the Langhe, soon shaped what is now G.D. Vajra. The vineyards extend across some of the most prized areas of Barolo, where altitude and excellent exposures are reflected in every sip of wine, offering elegance, freshness and a harmony made up of small but precious details.

Alongside Aldo and Milena, their children Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidoro now lead a young and dynamic team. The family has also been running the historic Luigi Baudana winery in Serralunga d’Alba since 2009: a union born from the utmost respect for those who cultivated these lands in the past. The winery’s Langhe Bianco Dragon and the Baudana and Cerretta Barolos offer an energetic expression of the territory’s purest identity.
