Pio Cesare is a historic winery in the centre of Alba, established in 1881. This authentic jewel of architecture and heritage produces Barolo, Barbaresco and other great Piedmontese wines from its own vineyards in the Langhe, with an elegant and distinctive style.

Pio Cesare is one of the most extraordinary historic wineries in Piedmont, established in 1881 and still active today in its original premises in the heart of Alba. Nestled within ancient Roman walls and spread across four underground levels, the winery is a veritable architectural treasure and guardian of memory: a place where every bottle breathes the time and tradition of five generations. Established by Cesare Pio, the estate is now led by Federica Rosy, Cesare and Augusto, heirs to the vision of Pio Boffa, a central figure in the brand’s international growth. With around 80 hectares of estate-owned vineyards throughout the Langhe and Colli Tortonesi, Pio Cesare perfectly embodies the balance between territory and style. Its Barolo and Barbaresco come from iconic MGA sites – such as Ornato, Mosconi, Ravera and Bricco di Treiso – and are vinified with rigour, sensitivity and a classic spirit. Alongside its historic cuvées, the winery also produces single-vineyard labels that elegantly express the identity of each plot. Visiting Pio Cesare takes you on a journey into the history of Piedmontese wine: a rare, intense and profoundly authentic experience.

WHAT MAKES THE EXPERIENCE UNIQUE

Visits, by appointment, include a guided tour of the historic cellar and a tasting of prestigious wines, including Barolo, Barbaresco and bottles from the family’s private collection.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday (all day, at set times) and Saturday mornings only.
