Cascina Chicco

Cascina Chicco is a winery in Canale, in the heart of the Roero, with 50 hectares of estate-owned vineyards and an impressive underground cellar where some of the Langhe and Roero’s finest wines, including Roero Arneis, Nebbiolo, Barolo and Metodo Classico sparkling wine, are produced.
Cascina Chicco was established in Canale, in the heart of the Roero, in 1950, when Ernesto Faccenda purchased his first hectare of vineyard to grow Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes. Since then, the family has forged a path of growth rooted in strong traditions and far-sighted vision. Ernesto’s son, Federico, firmly believed in viticulture and, together with his wife Maddalena, began bottling wines under the family name. In the 1980s, their sons Enrico and Marco, trained at the Oenological School in Alba, bringing new energy to the winery and expanding production into the most prestigious crus: Roero Arneis in Canale, Barbera in Castellinaldo and Nebbiolo in Valmaggiore, through to the renowned MGAs of Monforte d’Alba and the Ovello cru of Barbaresco. Today, the estate consists of 50 hectares of vineyards throughout the Langhe and Roero. One of the most ambitious projects took shape in 2014: an underground cellar measuring over 5,000 m2, carved into the hillside to a depth of 28 metres. A striking construction where gypsum, brick and architecture come together with technology and silence, telling the story of the land in an elegant winemaking style that remains true to its roots.
